over the past few weeks, we at the debate hotline have been looking into the effects of gender discrimination in debate and steps to solve it. we think that starts with giving the community a voice.
we're tired of gender minorities in debate facing blatant acts of discrimination and having nowhere to go, and we want to try and remedy that. the stories you tell us can serve as a starting point. we value your experiences that can help raise awareness to the severity of this issue. it can serve as a wake up call to all who call debate home and unite us in our effort to dismantle bigotry.
EDUCATION
debate is an educational space where knowledge is vital to success. we seek to expand access to those struggling to enter the event with content, lectures, and more. education is also vital to minorities who fight for change with progressive argumentation that amplifies their voices.
RESOURCES
debate is an expensive and exclusionary event. fees and costs lock out lower-income debaters while private prep groups and coaching limit their ability to learn and grow. we seek to provide fundraising, scholarships, and coaching to combat these structures that hold students back.
EQUALITY
debate is unfair. discriminatory judges and competitors exclude minorities and fuel an unequal structure in the space. toxic cultures and an inability to spark institutional reform continues to stall change. we seek to foster a direct and unified front across the entire debate space to directly challenge oppression.
